BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: Marathon Monday began with a Patriots Day Parade which started at Boston's City Hall. The annual parade commemorates Paul Revere's service during the Revolutionary War. After a flag raising ceremony in City Hall's plaza, the parade marches to Kings Chapel Burying Ground to lay a wreath on Paul Revere's grave. The soldiers then march down to the North End on Hanover Street where a reenactment of Paul Revere's ride is displayed by members of the National Lancers.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: Just down the hill, preparations for the Marathon begin in the Boston Commons. Volunteers begin loading buses to help once runners arrive in the city.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022 - Further down Boylston more preparations continue at the finish line. Thousands of water bottles are prepared to be handed to athletes once they cross the finish line after a physically exerting 26.2 mile run.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: Daniel Romanchuk was the first athlete to cross the finish line at 10:28AM. Romanchuk finished with a time of 01:26:58 winning his second gold medal at the Boston Marathon. Romanchuk still holds the title for the youngest to ever win this event.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: Lawrence Cherono who took second and Benson Kipruto who took third helped Kenya complete the sweep for the Marathon. Their fellow Kenyan Evans Chebet placed first half a minute before Cherono.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: Peres Jepchirchir won her first Boston Marathon in a tight race with Ababel Yeshaneh. Jepchirchir edged out Yeshaneh at the very end of the race winning by four seconds. This marathon was the 50th anniversary of women being allowed in the competition, and this battle made it all the more memorable.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022 - Manuela Schär won the gold in the women's wheelchair event, finishing with a time of 01:41:08. At 37 years old, this is her fourth Boston Marathon win. Schär finished five minutes before second place, showing no signs of slowing down.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: Monicah Ngige embraces a race committee member after she finishes fifth in the marathon.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - April 18, 2022: This year's marathon featured over 28,000 participants from all 50 states and 120 countries.
